When it comes to sustainability, there are no compromises.

Cactus leather is the sustainable, vegan and cruelty-free leather alternative.

Cactus leather was invented by two Mexicans, Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez, who worked on the development of cactus leather for several years and founded the start-up Desserto in 2019.

Cactus leather is made from nopal or fig cacti.

Only the ripe leaves of the plant are cut off, without damaging the plant itself, so that harvesting can take place from the same plants every 6-8 months.

The production of cactus leather does not involve the use of toxic chemicals, nor are there questionable production processes or unfair working conditions.

Furthermore, cacti are a renewable resource and, unlike leather production, require very little water.

Cactus leather is primarily made from nopal or fig cacti and grown in Mexico, which is also where we source our cactus leather.

Leather made from cacti offers high abrasion, friction, tear and tensile strength, as well as a long service life.

It is breathable, yet resistant and flexible, robust, antistatic, allergy-friendly, recyclable, environmentally friendly, warm, soft and lightfast.

Visually, cactus leather is in no way inferior to genuine leather.

Similar to animal leather, cactus leather also develops its own patina.

The entire production process for all our new vegan and cruelty-free aprons – from the initial sketch to the finished product – took over a year. The idea and development process, however, began much earlier. It was simply important to us to offer a truly honest, vegan, and sustainable apron, which proved extremely challenging in practice. But, as so often before, our excellent network came to our aid. We contacted all relevant suppliers and involved our designer to coordinate everything. With this tremendous effort, we are now proud to present these unique aprons that everyone will envy.
